I’m not an anti-nuke freak. In fact, I think they’re necessary for human expansion into space. Out past Jupiter, there’s really no other way to generate power economically. And on a kW/kg basis, nuclear is the densest power source we’ve got. This isn’t to say, however, that we should be using nuclear power here on [...]

I was poking around Opel’s UK site today and saw something neat. Instead of posting fuel economy for the various engines and body styles, they post the CO2 emissions. For example, instead of 35 miles per gallon, they show 140 grams per kilometer. Aside from being metric, which is much, much better than imperial, this [...]

via GM’s FastLane Blog And finally, time-starved women are hungry for a chance to get away from it all – so our dealerships are hosting “ladies night out” events to create a relationship that goes beyond our products. Recently we’ve had dealers host a Bunco party and a Girl Scout Girl Power Clinic; we’ve also [...]

I just read this great post over at The Poor Man. In it, he states that the Republican ideologies (theocratic, corporatist and racist) are not long for this world, because they rely on the fact that people are spread out. In it he also links to this post elsewhere that shows the problem when you [...]

GM’s trying to jump on the environmentalist bandwagon with their Live Green, Go Yellow campaign. The way I see it, they’re doing some minor engineering and hoping to get as much props as Toyota or Honda for releasing hybrid vehicles. But, really, how much work does it take to get a car that runs off [...]

via GCC This isn’t saving the environment, it’s saving his ass. As an oil company exec, he knows better than anyone that oil is a limited resource, and prices are just going to go up. He wants to increase efficiency so there’s less economic pressure to develop alternatives to petroleum-based fuels. The last thing this [...]

Treehugger: Organic Farming More Than Competitive “Organic farming approaches for these crops not only use an average of 30 percent less fossil energy but also conserve more water in the soil, induce less erosion, maintain soil quality and conserve more biological resources than conventional farming does,” Pimentel added. Hopefully this study will convince more farmers [...]

Wired News: Enviros Make U-Turn, Praise SUV I’m an “enviro” and I don’t like the SUV. The Mariner is a little bigger than my wife’s Vibe and gets a little better fuel economy. Whoop-de-freakin-doo. Ford should be taking giant leaps, not teeny little steps. Of course, what do you expect from a junk bond?
