On Flash Drives

Posted by Paul on February 7, 2006 in Uncategorized |

I know I can get a 1GB flash drive at Costco for less than $50. But I don’t really need one. Virtually every computer is connected to the Internet, and I can always keep stuff I want or need on that instead of on a flash drive. If I want security, I’ll just use https or scp or ssh or sftp. And when I eventually switch to  Dreamhost, I’ll have WebDAV on a fat pipe with 1TB/month of bandwidth.

I think that, in the future, everyone will have these sort of remote drives. They might even be distributed. Since we’ll all have fat pipes to the net, we’ll be able to use our data even though it’s scattered throughout the world.
