Letters From The Earth

I heard about Letters From The Earth on What Do You Know on Sunday. It is an absolutely riotous collection of essays from Mark Twain critical of religion and the religious; pointing out inconsistancies and hypocrises, and holding religion up to the fine light of reason. here’s an excerpt.

It is most difficult to understand the disposition of the Bible God, it is such a confusion of contradictions; of watery instabilities and iron firmness; of goody-goody abstract morals made out of words, and concreted hell-born ones made out of acts; of fleeting kindness repented of in permanent malignities.

It isn’t hard to see why Samuel Clemens is the quintissential American author.
